• Do Boar Bristle Brushes Really Work? And Why?

You’ve probably heard of using a boar bristle brush on your hair, or may already have one. Boar bristles are great for your hair, but the right type makes all the difference.

Boar bristle brushes are designed to help smooth the cuticle of the hair down. This is important because when a cuticle is raised it can create tangles in your hair, leading to hair breakage. Another unfortunate effect is that when a cuticle is raised, hair shows less shine. Think of your hair’s cuticle as a piece of tape on a table: if the tape is not laid flat on the table, the color of the table is dull. But if you lay that piece of tape flat and smooth it out onto the table, the color of the table is clear and very sharp.

There are many benefits to using a boar bristle brush, including:

  • It aids in hair growth
Boar bristles stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles, which is essential to hair growth.
  • It prevents hair breakage
In addition to stimulating blood flow, the boar bristles also activate the oil glands, enabling them to produce the amount of oil needed for your scalp. Healthy sebaceous oil production also aids in preventing frizziness.
  • It softens hair and supports your scalp’s oil production
The regular production of oil in your hair provides natural conditioning, leaving your hair soft and shiny.

Not all brushes are created equal, including boar bristle brushes. You want to know what to look for when choosing the right boar bristle brush, as boar blends do not create the same results.

Check out my video above as I show you the sister brush to the Wet Brush. The Shine Brush is designed with Mongolian boar and Intellifex bristles to not only detangle hair, but to also help lay the cuticle flat, increasing the hair’s shine. For those who use a style extending spray, this is a perfect match to use with each application.
